We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit different skillsets. If you want to get involved and make a difference, volunteering at The Lost Dogs’ Home is a great way for you to do this while you gain experience in the animal welfare sector and meet like-minded people.
Please note that we only accept volunteers over 18 years of age, and we are also currently unable to facilitate work experience placements.
To apply for a volunteer role, complete the online form linked under the opportunity you’re interested in. If your preferred role isn’t listed, check back regularly. Applications are reviewed by our team, and shortlisted candidates may take part in phone screening and interviews. All roles require a police check.
We look for people who share our values, are reliable, positive, team players, and can commit at least 3 to 4 hours a week.
We’d love to hear from you. Whether you have a question, want to get involved, or simply need more information, our team is here to help.
Dog Walking
As a dog walking volunteer, you will play an important role in ensuring our dogs waiting to find their new forever homes receive daily socialisation and exercise, helping them to stay healthy and happy. Our dog walkers are fit and confident in handling large, energetic breeds such as Huskies, German Shepherds, Rottweilers and American Staffies.

Gardening/Maintenance
We’ve got extensive grounds and gardens at our North Melbourne and Cranbourne sites and can always use the skills of Maintenance Assistant volunteers to help us out. This is an ideal role for a handy person who’s retired and enjoys doing a variety of maintenance and gardening activities. Although you’re not hands-on with the animals, you’ll be making a huge contribution to their environment and the facilities for staff who are doing the hands-on care.
Laundry
It may not be the most glamorous role at the shelter, but our laundry volunteers are important in helping us to keep the animals in our care warm, comfortable, and happy.
In this role, you will sort, wash, dry, hang out, and fold blankets, towels, and toys so they are ready for use the next day. You may also sort through our daily donations.
