Twinkle by name, and ready to sparkle!

Hello! I'm Twinkle, a six year old Jack Russell Terrier with a heart of gold and a PhD in lap warming. If you've been dreaming of a sweet little shadow who wants nothing more than to be your special companion, I think we should meet!

Now, I have a little secret... the dog you meet in the shelter isn't really me.

Shelter life makes me feel worried and overwhelmed. You might see me cautiously peeking out of my kennel, feeling unsure about having my harness put on, or wondering if I'd rather stay tucked away than head out for a walk. New places and lots of activity can be a bit scary for me.

But give me a quiet home, a little patience and someone to trust... and that's when the magic happens!

My foster carer says I'm a sweet, social girl who's been charming everyone in the neighbourhood. I'm gentle, affectionate and absolutely adore being close to my favourite person. In fact, if you sit down, don't be surprised if I politely (or not so politely!) claim your lap before you've even got comfortable. Once I bond with you, I'll happily follow you from room to room just to keep you company. I'm definitely more couch potato than busybody!

I'm looking for a family who understands that confidence doesn't appear overnight. I can be a little unsure about handling, so I'll need gentle, force-free training and lots of positive experiences to help me continue building confidence with people, new places and everyday adventures. The more safe and supported I feel, the more my wonderful personality shines.

If you already have a calm, friendly dog around my size and age, we could become great friends with slow, positive introductions. I may also enjoy living with kind primary school aged children who understand that gentle hands and giving me space when I need it will help me feel safe.

My foster family says they've never heard me growl. In fact, the only time I've barked was when I accidentally knocked over the laundry basket... and I think it gave me a bigger fright than anyone else!

Everyone who's spent time with me agrees that I'm the kind of dog who forms a beautiful bond with her person. I don't need fancy adventures or constant excitement, just love, kindness, a comfy couch and someone who'll let me blossom at my own pace.

If you're willing to look past my worried shelter face, you'll discover the sweet, snuggly, loyal little girl who's been there all along.

I can't wait to sparkle in my forever home. Could it be yours?

Twinkle xx

The Adoption Ambassador Program

In a first for Australian animal shelters, The Lost Dogs’ Home Adoption Ambassador Program will give animals a better chance at finding a forever home by allowing people to adopt directly from our specially trained foster carers. This will negate the need for animals to return to the shelter environment.
